Four years ago today, we sat in a courtroom in California and solemnly swore to love, provide for, irritate, and embarrass Jedediah for life. His adoption was finalized quietly, just the judge, our social worker, and our family. The older three kids sat with us at a long defense table in wheeley office-like chairs, which bounced and twirled through most of the short proceedings.

I love that Weems Day is so close to Easter each year. Easter is about adoption, too. Both Easter and adoption begin with heart-wrenching loss, but God redeems them both with new life and resurrection.

We’re celebrating by driving from Albuquerque, New Mexico to Mesa, Arizona. Here we are in the midst of the party. Are we having fun yet?
