Last week we were in California. I copped out and flew (because I had to be there for work early- poor me), and my parents, AKA the Super-Grands, drove out with the Weems fab four.

I always have mixed feelings when we return to a place where we have lived. I look forward to seeing people and places I miss, but I hate feeling the disconnection that time and proximity has etched in us. Our first Sunday there, after church at Saddleback San Clemente, we combined some of our favorite things—Pedro’s Tacos, the beach, and the Padilla and Stenlake families. My best friend Heidi got a paddleboard for Christmas, and we were all anxious to try it out. After a quick lesson, my Dad, the girls, and I all took a turn trying it out at a small bay at Doheny Beach. Ransom’s buddy Connor Jack came along for the day, and they were too busy catching up to paddleboard.

Memphis turned it into a three ring circus with her instructions and “help.” It’s a wonder she didn’t push us all in. I thought Cora Jo was going to whack her with the paddle on purpose. No one was injured.

I can definitely see us doing this in Okinawa if we have the opportunity. Paddle on!
