Had to say goodbye to an old friend this week. We’ve had her almost fifteen years. Cancer has been eating away at her for awhile, and the vet said it was time.

“Did you say goodbye to Baby?” I asked my daughter Cora Jo. I tried not to let my voice crack, but I was fighting tears.

She stretched out her hands and scratched Baby behind the ears, holding her head in her hands.

“Goodbye, Baby. Have a good forever sleep,” she said. Both of them smiled, content in the now.

I often think my eight-year-old accepts this life much better than me. Goodbye, Baby.
