I watch from the window as she zooms past
The wheels clicking fast on the sidewalk
Blond curls flying, spilling from the hot pink helmet
Her jacket threatens to become a kite
She smiles secretly
Chin thrust out in front of the handlebars
A smile only for her own speed
For her own strength
My heart takes flight, catching
Her joy, her face, her freckles
All reflecting a child’s gift of abandon
In my mind I race after her
Grinning, following, flying
She knows the way better than me
The kingdom belongs to her
Racing angels on scooters
A little heaven on earth
