Well, hello there. We interrupt this dead blog space with signs of life. Where to begin? Hmmm…. Well, last week we had our fortnightly (been dying to use that word) typhoon party when Typhoon Sanba rolled in and out of Okinawa. I got my trampoline disassembly time down to 57 minutes flat, and we came through the storm just fine. People here get excited when there is a typhoon, and I now know why. The buildings here are made to withstand these storms, which cuts down on the fear factor. The typhoon provides most families with a “snow day” experience, where everything is closed and cancelled. People have to stay home, inside, together. For some people, it sounds like 24 hours in the tower of terror with no exit ramp, but for most, it feels good to have a full day off with nothing to do, even if it always happens on the weekend. We baked, made skirts for two Webkinz stuffed animals, won the laundry war (for five minutes), and joined Carolina (our dog) in her lounge lizard snoring act.

In other news, the kids have now been in school for four weeks. I have not received one phone call, so maybe Memphis is hiding in her locker every day, the fake number I wrote on all the school paperwork is keeping them at bay, or everyone is acclimating. Thank you all for your prayers.

I did receive an email yesterday about my fourth grade daughter’s math homework not being turned in, but after grilling poor Cora Jo, we emailed the teacher. The email had been sent to me by mistake. Her teacher apologized profusely saying she has had absolutely no problems with Cora Jo. No surprise there.

Jedediah’s kindergarten class is having two weeks of “Celebrating Color” which I thought was some kind of cultural emphasis. Then I got the paper on it with a different color assigned each day for two weeks. Red, orange, blue, magenta…this is why I teach high school. We were supposed to be dressing them in as much of the day’s color as possible, “perhaps send a snack to match!” the paper said. *commence eye-rolling* I forgot until yesterday when Memphis came home and said,  “The neighbor is repainting her daughter’s nails each day to match the color of the day! What is Jet doing for orange day?” Isn’t it enough to send him to school dressed? Mercy.

Matt and I have a running joke about how I am now a “lady of leisure” since the kids are all in school, and I have *AHEM* nothing to do all day. Which obviously includes spacing out “Celebrating Color Week.” Looking at my calendar the past month, I have had TWO open days. TWO. No wonder I am so tired. This lady of leisure needs to go back to work, so I can REST! Now, off to finish birthday plans for Memphis, who has defied all bets I placed on her and will have lived to see ELEVEN on Sunday. Party pics and a more coherent post to follow.
