Over the weekend, we went to the Urasoe City Park, a couple minutes outside our base. Okinawa is full of great public parks, and many of them have crazy roller slides. Urasoe did not disappoint. We parked up at the observatory, and then walked down to the playground area. I love how the old stonework and ruins are right alongside the modern playground and sports facilities.
The overlooks have great views of the city—looking out over the East China Sea.
It was quite a hike down to the slides and playground. I didn’t get a good shot of the playground because of the angle of the sun, but it is a HUGE play structure. (This park is great for all ages– we had pre-teen Ransom and his buddy along and they had a great time, even if they wouldn’t admit it).
The green structure on the left (cutting across the middle of the picture) is the roller slide. It begins at least two to three stories up.
The rules- I love the little cartoon people on the signs here… I wish I had video of Memphis “reading” the rules to everyone. “Take turns, see how they are standing in line? no head-butting! Don’t climb up the slide. NO standing! Don’t go too fast.” I think there is also a warning that repeated use may cause your balonies to hurt.
Luckily Memphis found (stole, sweet-talked, or otherwise acquired) some cardboard box pieces which made the ride a little easier. It moves along pretty quick, and the trick is not getting anything caught in the rollers when you try to slow down. I don’t think we left any parts (or people) behind.
A great Saturday afternoon outing now that the weather has cooled down a bit.
